About the Role
Role Overview:
As a Civil (Transportation) Design Engineer at Perkins Engineering, you will be at the forefront of designing transportation solutions that not only meet project goals but also embody our commitment to improving lives. Your role will involve:
Applying Engineering Standards: Applying local and national engineering design standards for road & highway safety and functionality, trails, bicycle, pedestrian, parking, traffic signals, and lighting facilities.
Utilizing the Latest Software: Utilize Bentley OpenRoads Designer CAD/3D design and modeling software to bring innovative designs to life. Utilize other design software such as SignCAD and AutoTurn to produce detailed designs. Use general purpose software for engineering calculations and technical writing such as Microsoft and Google spreadsheets and word processors. Learn company & client communication software, and project & file management systems.
Developing Designs: Developing concept and construction level designs for roadways, trails, bike lanes, signing & striping, maintenance of traffic, utilities, drainage & erosion control, signal & lighting, and intelligent transportation systems.
Preparing Final Plans and Documents for Construction Advertising: Prepare final construction plans, specifications, construction quantities, cost estimates, and construction advertising documents.
Collaborative Efforts: Coordinating the design with clients, subconsultants, utility companies, public agencies, surveyors, and other disciplines, such as structures, geotechnical, environmental, right of way, and construction.
Information Gathering and Analysis: Preconstruction site visits & information gathering. Construction site inspections. Analyzing traffic studies, crash data, maps, & other technical information, and drawing conclusions. Cost-benefit analyses. Organizing, planning, and prioritizing design work plans. Understanding basic project management for project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:
0-4 years of civil engineering experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited University by December 2024.
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
Obtain Professional Engineering Licensure within 4 years of your graduation date.
